ROMINA SHAMA

FOUNDER OF THE MUSÉE TRANSITOIRE
Italian-Egyptian artist Romina Shama was born in Switzerland. After obtaining a degree in anthropology from the University of Lausanne, she continued her studies at Central Saint Martins School in London before settling in Paris.
In 2012, questioning modes of representation, she created her own double by reversing her name: rachel rom, a figure that both disrupts and binds her identity. Continuing this process of erasure, the artist introduces the recurring regeneration of the works she creates, as well as the appropriation of places, works, or texts that do not belong to her. It was within this context that she founded Musée Transitoire in 2019, as yet another identity and an extension of her practice.
Through it, she develops her own system of operation, inviting other artists into her practice as a way of expanding the dialogue around the subjects she addresses. Musée Transitoire thus becomes both a framework for collective thought and an artwork in itself, allowing her practice to operate beyond the limits of individual authorship.
